About Vintage Chenille

Chenille bedspreads were everywhere once upon a time. Their history is woven into the very fabric of our great American textile history, literally. 

The word "chenille" comes from the French word for "caterpillar," describing the fuzzy, three-dimensional texture created by tufted yarn.

Many early pieces were hand-tufted by skilled artisans, particularly in Georgia, which became known as the "chenille bedspread capital of the world."

From the 1930s through the 1960s, chenille bedspreads were America's favorite bedding. Many have survived for generations, a testament to the quality production techniques that were used back in the day.
