This is a beautifully detailed vintage cut-velvet textile (a wall hanging or rug - you decide - it's about 46"L x 26"W). It features a shadowy rococo-style design of cherubs or angels surrounded by an abundant Garden of Eden style floral arrangement set on a rich golden background.It has very unusual coloration with prominent linear lightening as shown - It's almost like a folded sun fade that produced a brilliant effect, yet I have two other pieces from this collection listed separately and all have unique, shadowy lightening like this does.
The piece is finished with a scrolling foliate border and long, soft fringe on both short ends. Even the bkgd is unique, in a rich yellow-gold with flecks of deeper tones, adding to the dimensional appearance.
The luxurious pile and vivid colors suggest this was made as part of a coordinated bedroom set in the midcentury. Given the delicate chenille cut-velvet pile and decorative fringe, this piece is best suited as a wall hanging, tapestry, or small accent rug as a display piece.
